Retirement is the culmination of an Officer’s Professional Career spanning over almost three decades and passing through various phases. An IAS officer starts with a joyful entry into the service when the result of Civil Services Examination is declared. He lands up at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie and turns into an OT (Officer Trainee). After enjoying the liberties admissible to the ‘probationer’ in the district, he gradually traverses that time period of his career when he attains successive levels, learns the nuances and earns great respect. That period also enriches him with everlasting memories of dealing with law & order issues, serious business discussions in long meetings, dealing with the politicians, occasional arguments with the boss, achieving targets and organizing big events. All that seems unending but suddenly one day he is sitting in his retirement farewell function adorned with speeches from colleagues and all those memories flash across like a big collage of events. And it is time to whisper an adieu to the long and prestigious career in the Service. Retirement is that bittersweet end of the professional career which is destined for any Government employee right on the day when he joins the service. And that is why this platform has been created to bid goodbye to our colleagues who have completed their career in the IAS or have chosen to retire voluntarily midway. We wish them good health and quality time with their families. I am sure that we will remain associated with them through other platforms.
